Our boutique hotel project, which we started to build in 2021 in the Urla district of Izmir.

Despite the difficulties brought by the pandemic criteria, due to the fact that the project site is a protected area, the region consists of old settlements with historical diversity, and the difficulty of using construction materials due to narrow streets, we are nearing the end in the implementation of the 3-storey 6-room project.

In the visual records that emerged during the excavations on the land located in the 210 m2 urban site impact transition area, we determined that there was a stone house with a basement belonging to Greek citizens during the population exchange period before the War of Independence. We have completed the project with a modern minimalist approach in line with Greek architecture that will appeal to you.

Urla, one of the Ionian cities under the name of Klazomenai, is the first settlement area known to be the first olive oil workshop known in Anatolia during the archaic period and the olive-olive oil trade by ship. We developed the philosophy of design inspired by historical and local influences in these lands, the hometown of Anaxagoras, the most well-known of the pre-Socratic thinkers.

We completed the façade of the building with aluminum narrow windows, marble floor moldings and jambs using technology and modern building elements, referring to the old Greek stone house lines.

The lobby desk, which we positioned as welcoming guests inside at the entrance, is in the form of olive seeds, and the lightings extending to the high ceiling are again in the form of olive tree leaves.

On the wall rising behind the lobby desk, we placed fictional letters carved from limestone to refer to some historical events of the Ionian cities.

Our aim in the project setup is to present an alternative approach to the distorted and haphazard construction designed with the use of stone on the facades of every building in the Urla region and to remind the region of the forgotten historical wheel of the old period with this approach.
